We had a nightmare of a heating system. Odd boiler, single pipe system that had been branched all over the place in a large old victorian house. Because of the mess of pipes the heating was likely ineffective to start with but also, working from home, we didn't want to heat the whole house all day when we were in just one room. Damon recommended a Honeywell Evohome system - the ability to control the house in zones so that you can just heat the rooms that you use. He installed it quickly at a good price, but the old, dirty pipes meant he hit multiple problems. Where others might have walked away, Damon came back on multiple days, made sure we were never without heating, came up with great workarounds and implemented them quickly. He proactively got in touch with us over the next few weeks, checking in to see how it was going, coming back to balance the system and not resting until he was happy that he had got it working brilliantly. This was a difficult job, hitting unforeseen issues, but not once did he complain - and he didn't charge extra despite it clearly taking him much longer. Damon is a stand-up guy, doing great work - someone you can trust to do the very best for you. If only every tradesperson was like him. Cannot recommend him highly enough - and the Evohome system is living up to its potential.

Job was assessed in minutes, old sink/plumbing removed, work top modified to take new sink, missing plumbing parts purchased/collected, new sink fitted, plumbing completed and kitchen work tops/floor cleaned all inside a short afternoon's work. Labour cost was very reasonable. Even made time to fix sticking sink tap in downstairs toilet on the way out. Great job done professionally while following Covid protocol. How much does it cost to replace a radiator?
Prices vary vastly depending on what is needed. Is the radiator a straight swap, like for like for a small/medium sized radiator you would be probably looking at around £75-£100 labour for this, obviously if it’s a very large radiator it may require an extra set of hands so the labour charge will increase. It may be a straight swap but is an old imperial sized radiator so extensions may be needed so you would be looking at around £90-£115 for a small/medium sized rad. It may be that you need new valves fitting as well so this would increase the price and you would be looking at around £130-160 labour plus materials. It maybe that you need the radiator moving or repiping, these jobs would need to be looked at the quote as you don’t know how much work is involved. Prices will vary company to company and area to area. Always get 2/3 quotes to compare and don’t always go for the cheapest.
Why is my radiator cold?
Radiators can be cold for many reasons. The most common is that the radiator is switched off at one end, try opening both valves and seeing if that helps. It may also be that the thermostatic valves pin is stuck, you can try removing the thermostatic head and seeing if that helps. Other possible reasons are faulty pump, radiator needs bleeding, system needs balancing or a blockage. Always call a engineer if unsure.
How do you know if a radiator needs bleeding?
You will know if your radiator needs bleeding as when the heating is on the bottom of the radiator will be warm/hot and the top will be cool/cold. If the top of the radiator is warm/hot but the bottom is cold/cool then this is a different problem and not air in the radiator. If your not sure how to bleed them call an engineer.
