Should I change door locks if I've lost my house keys?
It is strongly advised you change your locks if you have lost your keys. They may have been taken from you without your knowledge. It is just not worth the risk of someone potentially being able to easily get into your home without your knowledge and losing items that you may never be able to replace.
What different types of door locks are there?
There are many types available. Morticed locks, rim locks, euro/oval profile cylinder locks, multi-point locking mechanisms. It depends on what type of door or window you need to lock. If you are unsure which type of lock you need then speaking to a trusted local Locksmith is a good idea.
What is the best lock for a front door?
This entirely depends on the type of door that you have. If you have a timber door, you will more than likely have a mortice lock. The best lock in this situation is a 5 lever British Standard. If you can have extra deadlocks fitted, even better. If you have a composite or UPVC door then you will have a multipoint mechanism. Two important things to consider here. The mechanism and the cylinder (the barrel where you insert your key). The mechanism should ideally have hooks or pins that prevent lifting of the door and the cylinder should be three star rated to keep the door locked if the cylinder is attacked. 2 star security handles are also an option here which defend the cylinder and lock the handle in place via the spindle.
