I trained as an apprentice plumber for Robert Tyers Ltd in Saffron Walden where I remained for 9+ years.
In 2002 I went self employed as a sole trader and started Simon King Plumbing and heating.
In 2015 we became a limited company under thename S King Ltd.
We do all kinds of plumbing but specialise on boiler, underfloor heating, air source heat pumps and energy efficient controls.

What is the best smart thermostat in 2020?

This is a hard one to answer. The best controls are usually the ones designed by the manufacturer for their own appliance as most 3rd party controls are simply on and off and don’t modulate. For user friendly 3rd party controls that are also smart I usually lean to the Honeywell T6 range as they can also be installed with multiple zones all on one app.

What is the best combi boiler?

In my opinion the Vaillant EcoTec plus range ticks all the boxes. They’re very quiet. They’re very efficient and modulate right down, particularly with Vaillant’s own controls. The casings are easy to fit and remove. All the parts are designed to be engineer friendly and easy to work on. The parts are easily accessible and stocked by most wholesalers. The manufacturers technical team always pick up after a short time and have never let me down.

What are the benefits of installing an unvented cylinder?

Unvented cylinders give you the capability of running more than one hot outlet at any one time depending on the pressure and flow rate of your incoming mains. With the trend in heat pumps more and more people will be ditching the combi boiler for unvented heat pump ready cylinders in times to come.
