That’s a difficult one to say really as it all depends on the installation factors of the job, and it’s layout, also whether you have the grounds for an array or bore hole installation. Ensuring that the heat calculations are done correctly they are just as good as each other. It’s horses for courses... More smaller jobs Air source, larger jobs ground source but only if you have the ground to complete such a job.

Ground source would have a higher sessional efficiency as the temperatures underground are constant With a air source heat pump the air temperature is up and down so casing the sessional efficiency to be a little lower But over a ten year period with the extra capital outlay for ground source in our opinion it’s a close call on which one would win

It’s a very tricky question but normally comes down to a few factors : Ground source heat pump -most efficient option but requires large amounts of land around half an acre of land to be efficiently -very expensive to install due to the required installation work. Will need a digger to dig large trench’s and back fill -requires an internal room to link the ground source to your central heating (plant room) Air source heat pump -Only requires a little unit in the garden -cheaper to install as you only need a solid slab for the unit to be minutes on.
